Copland - a great start to a "classical" library
Reviewed by Parent/Teacher
Although I haven't listened to this specific CD, I want to say that Copland is a terrific composer to start with when compiling your listening library. His music is engaging due to his prominent use of open fifths and octaves. Kids will listen to this and say "THAT'S 'classical' music? I like it!" He's one of my favorite composers; I am a professional musician.
Note that Copland's music actually falls in the Music History timeline in the Modern Period, not the strictly "Classical" Period.
Parents, please preview any Copland biographies before you choose to share them with your children.
