Gaining Favor with God and Man

by William Thayer Author

The lives of great men are an inspiration to the young. Tact, industry, perseverance, honesty, self-reliance, and the other virtues indispensable to success are incarnated in them. They are lived, thereby becoming real things instead of idealities or speculation. By studying these, the young discover a secret of power, and learn the value of the virtues by seeing the men who practiced them. There is no more profitable study for the young than the study of men and women who made things happen. Great men and women represent great things: as commerce, art, science, philanthropy, education and religion.
