Exceptional resource for ancient studies / Genesis

Reviewed by Parent/Teacher

This remarkable book is truly a gem. Dr. Beechick compiles information from diverse fields to present convincing arguments about what the lives of the patriarchs might have been like, and research to show that the flood of Noah's day really did occur.

Linguistics, astronomy, archaeology, ancient history, and anthropology are all brought together in a fascinating, in-depth study of the first few chapters of Genesis. In one notable example, Dr. Beechick shares how the ancient Chinese writing symbol for "border" resembles a simple drawing of the rivers flowing from the garden of Eden, depicting its border. She relates an ancient Chinese custom of the ruler bringing a yearly sacrifice to the border of his realm -- mirroring what Adam might have done after being cast out of the garden of Eden, bringing his sacrifices to its border. This kind of example, of which the book contains many, show clear evidence that the history in the bible can be trusted. Explanation is given for a more accurate and Bible-linked Egyptian and ancient history timeline. Myriad sources and fields are referenced. The scope of the research is staggering, yet the writing style and presentation is completely accessible to your average junior- or high-school student.

This book would make a superb unit study for a pre-teen or teenager. The appendices contain suggestions for further study, encompassing many curricular areas -- including math, writing, and Bible study. Additionally, the artwork throughout the book is beautifully rendered and thoughtfully chosen to supplement the topics. Stained-glass windows and famous works of fine art are included. You could easily use this book for relevant picture studies, and the lovely artwork enhances the learning experience.
