The Story of Japan
by Robert Van Bergen Author
Just as its name implies, this book tells the story of Japan, from its legendary beginnings until 1912. There is at least on chapter that the parent will want to pre-read and decide whether or not to leave out, as it describes in detail (though without gore) the samurai ritual of hara-kiri (ritual suicide). The book is delightful though, and my older children and I have been thoroughly enjoying what we are learning about the rich and somewhat mysterious history of Japan.
