Brother's Keeper [SCM]

by Julie Lee Author

A gripping narrative about the Korean War. When 12-year-old Sora's family decides to flee from North Korean and escape the communist regime, Sora ends up traveling alone with her brother. The novel offers a realistic but not sensationalized look at war-time refugees and the challenges and dangers they often face. A look at Korean culture is interwoven throughout the story. Note: Though the publisher recommends this book for grades 4–6, Simply CM recommends it for grades 9–12 due to some descriptions and intense situations. Some comments in chapter 1 (about the main character's physical development) may not be appropriate for boys to read.
