Stella by Starlight [SCM]
Stella and her loving family live in North Carolina in the early 1930s and, together with their supportive community, face chores, the Ku Klux Klan, illness, and writing assignments. A well-written narrative to introduce the racial injustices of that era in a less intense way than "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry." Contains references to "Lord" and "Lordy" used in a culturally Southern way but also sincere faith and prayers.
