Brothers of the Buffalo [SCM]

by Joseph Bruchac Author

Well-written historical fiction about two young men: a black soldier in the cavalry and a displaced Cheyenne. Told from the viewpoints of both, this is a story of conflict and unlikely friendship in the West. Cultural stories are tucked between the chapters. Some strong language is included, but only one instance of taking God's name in vain. Parents are encouraged to discuss the similarities and differences between the men's situations, the cultural stories, and the worldviews of both young men. Especially of interest is the Cheyenne's reaction to hearing about Jesus's death.
