At the end of each bio, the authors state what that person inspires them to do; you can encourage your child to determine what ideas he or she wants to pull from the stories. Note: In the biography about Margaret Chung, the statement is made that she "gave each soldier a special necklace strung with a small Buddha meant to keep them safe."
