Asian-Americans Who Inspire Us [SCM]

Short, simple biographies of 16 Asian-Americans highlighting the ideas they had, the obstacles they overcame, and the dreams they accomplished. At the end of each bio, the authors state what that person inspires them to do; you can encourage your child to determine what ideas he or she wants to pull from the stories. Biographies included: Ellison Onizuka, Margaret Chung, Duke Kahanamoku, Lisa Ling, Yo-Yo Ma, Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz, Tammy Duckworth, Sal Khan, Kristi Yamaguchi, Patsy Takumoto Mink, David Ho, Maya Lin, Andrew Youn, Haing Ngor, Grace Lin. Note: In the biography about Margaret Chung, the statement is made that she "gave each soldier a special necklace strung with a small Buddha meant to keep them safe."
