The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind [SCM]
by William Kamkwamba Author
A autobiographical narrative of a young man's life in Malawi, his thirst for knowledge even when he could not afford to go to school, and how he taught himself with library books. Eventually he designed and built a windmill from whatever materials he could find to generate electricity for his family's house. A fascinating look inside life in a small village in Malawi, as well as how William's life changed when his windmill became famous and he ended up doing a TED talk about it. (Parental Advisories: Many traditional Malawi stories are shared that include magic and wizards. In one situation, a young boy's eyes are cleansed from potential poison by having a breastfeeding mother squirt milk into them. Near the end, the author includes several exclamations of "My God!")
