Day of Atonement [SCM]
by David A. deSilva Author
A novel of the period in Israel's history between the Old and New Testaments. Traces how the Greek culture was embraced and promoted by Jewish leaders who were under the thumb of Greek kings; the various reactions to that promotion among the people; and the rise of the Maccabees dynasty, who determined to take back by force their land and distinctive culture as God's people. Well written historical fiction. Parent Advisory: Contains some crude language and allusions to sexual immorality, which are not sensationalized but included only to paint the picture of the cultural mores. Some strong language is included in the battle scenes, and four people are martyred for their faith.
