God's Design for the Physical World--Machines and Motion
by Debbie and Richard Lawrence Author
The biblically based "Gods Design for the Physical World" series was designed by homeschoolers for homeschoolers! Machines & Motion explores mechanical forces, simple machines, kinematics, dynamics, circular & periodic motion, and the use of machines while teaching about simple machines, such as levers and inclined planes, and the laws of motion. Designed for grades 3-8, full-color photos, diagrams, illustrations, special features and fun facts make learning about every aspect of science fun, while key concepts are continually reinforced and explored through chapter review and activities. Color-coded by age group, chapter reviews are separated for 3rd-5th grade and 6th-8th grade students to quickly find their assignments. This easy-to-use curriculum is ideal for anyone who wants to teach earth & space science from a God-centered, creationist point of view. This is one student book of three in the "Gods Design for the Physical World" Series; each contains 35 lessons with one final project to merge all the lessons together. At the pace of 3 lessons a week (approximately 30-45 minutes each), you can cover the 3-book series (other books sold separately) within a year. 122 partially reproducible pages, softcover with glossary and index. Grades 3-8. NKJV Scripture used. CLASS POLICIES & PROCEDURES: Machines, Motion and Matter (MMM) Class Policies and Procedures 2021-2022 Class Time: Each week in class, you will be introduced to new material through teaching, demonstrations and experiments. At home you will read about what we did in class and complete your homework. The following week we will go over homework in class before we move on to new information. Homework: The syllabus will tell you what to read and complete each week, broken up into suggested portions for each day. You only need to read the text parts of each lesson, and stop when you come to the box at the end of the text. You are not required to read the information in the boxes or study any of the challenge words, but you are more than welcome to if it interests you! There may be some extra credit or rewards here and there... Each week I will email a homework sheet with definitions and questions to answer, and occasionally a worksheet to fill out. Weekly homework is 60% of your grade. Do your work on a separate sheet of notebook paper (or you may type it if you prefer) and attach it to the homework sheet. PUT YOUR NAME ON THE FRONT SHEET. What works best is to 3-hole punch the homework sheet first, and when you are done with your homework, match up the holes and staple. This way it will go nicely in your binder. These homework assignments will be your study guides for quizzes. Be sure to restate the question in your answers, it really helps in studying! Late Work: If you are sick or absent and have no way of completing an assignment on time, your parent may contact me and it will be an “excused” assignment. You will be allowed one extra week to turn it in with no penalty. Sometimes life happens and homework just doesn’t get done. Each student will receive 2 “free pass” tickets for “unexcused” homework each semester. These will allow you to turn in an assignment the following week with no penalty. These tickets are your responsibility to keep track of and will not be replaced if lost. Once you run out of passes, no unexcused late work will be accepted. At the end of the semester, you may turn in unused tickets for extra credit. Quizzes: There will be a quiz after most units. These will make up 30% of your grade. For the 1st few quizzes you may use your book if needed. I encourage you to try and complete the quiz without it first, and only use it if you really need help. After that, you will no longer be able to use your book. We will always do a thorough review in class so you know what you need to study. Quizzes will be emailed and taken at home, then turned in just like your homework. Participation: Participating in class is how you really get a grasp on the material, and how I am able to tell if you understand the concepts, so participation will be 10% of your grade. Ask questions, answer questions, and be hands-on with the experiments. This is what makes science fun! Binders and Materials: You are required to bring all materials to class each week and keep your binder organized. These are crucial skills to learn before you go into high school, so you may occasionally receive a grade for binder checks. Behavior: In my class, we treat each other with respect. We help each other. We don’t laugh at others’ questions or answers. We treat each other with kindness. We don’t speak while others are speaking. When I am talking, you are quiet and listening. We have so many fun things to do in class, and we can’t get to them all unless you focus and listen. But don’t worry, there will be plenty of time for you to talk and participate throughout the class! I am always available to answer questions for you through email or text. Please don’t hesitate to ask, that’s what I’m here for! Looking forward to a great year! Mrs. Madison I have read and understand the policies and procedures, and agree to follow them to the best of my ability.
